The Importance of Garbage Classification

Garbage classification is a revolutionary green transformation and a systematic project. Many people have concerns about garbage classification, fearing that once the garbage is sorted in the community, it will be mixed together and "sorted out for nothing". This requires that garbage classification work must be carried out simultaneously in the front, middle, and end. For example, can we urge the shipping company to strictly implement packaging and transportation, so that everyone can understand? For example, at present, a small number of people still do not have enough understanding of the importance of garbage classification. Can we use market-oriented means to force it in the front-end? Last year, 342 communities in Changsha launched a pilot project for garbage classification, and communities and residents who classified and reduced their waste effectively received rewards. This is a good exploration, and of course, it cannot be separated from financial support.

The reason why garbage classification is so important is also because we are consuming more and more types of goods, and the knowledge and methods of garbage classification need to be constantly updated. Many people have this feeling: garbage classification has been talked about for so many years, but when it comes to standing in front of the garbage bin, they still don't know how to classify it. The Implementation Plan for the Garbage Classification System has been officially implemented since last year, which clarifies the implementation of the "four point classification" model in communities, which is divided into four categories: recyclables, perishable garbage, hazardous garbage, and other garbage. However, it is not easy to operate in practice. For example, in the category of recyclables, everyone knows that paper can be recycled, but they are not very familiar with plastics, glass, rubber, and other materials that are also recyclable. Everyone knows that batteries are hazardous waste, but they may not necessarily know that discarded drugs, cosmetics, etc. are also hazardous waste.

Statistics show that the amount of household waste in 2018 decreased by 13.59% compared to 2017. This indicates that as long as everyone pays attention to the "big environmental protection" beyond the "snow in front of the door" and does not dwell on the "small troubles" of garbage classification, garbage classification will become a new habit and custom. The environmental "small goal" of achieving 100% coverage of community garbage classification will not fall through.
